Managing warehouse space efficiently is a crucial part of any logistics or supply chain operation. In my latest video, I walk you through a simple but powerful Excel model that calculates the warehouse size required to store different types of pallets.
Whether you’re planning a new layout or optimizing your current one, this tool is a great starting point to estimate how much space you’ll need based on the number, size, and stackability of your pallets.
🔍 What the Model Covers
- ✅ Input your pallet types, dimensions, stack height, and quantity
- ✅ Automatically calculates full column layouts and grouped leftovers
- ✅ Includes customizable spacing for forklift movement and safety margins
- ✅ Works in meters, feet, or inches – just stay consistent!
- ✅ Instant results for warehouse width and length
🛠️ How It Works
You’ll only need to update the blue columns with your data. The orange columns contain formulas that generate all the key outputs – including the total width and length of your warehouse layout. There’s also a visual simulation of how pallets are arranged in rows and columns, with stack height and spacing considered.
You’ll see how:
- The model uses rounding to avoid partial locations or columns
- Leftover pallets are grouped smartly into mixed columns
- Spacing between columns is built-in for real-life movement and safety
This makes it easy to scale up, duplicate rows, or even adapt the layout for different warehouse zones.
